Proud Paws is run by Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant, Jessica Powell.
Born and raised in South Wales in the UK, Jessica has extensive knowledge within the field of animal behavior and welfare and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Management from the University of Greenwich, England.
Jessica's life long passion for animals and their co-existence with humans began with large wildlife species such as elephants, monkeys and lions and and has taken her around the world to work in fields such as, Environmental Conservation, Behavioral Research and Human-Animal Conflict Resolution. Her current focus on our beloved canine companions was inspired by her two rescued Pit Bull Terriers, Lola and Levi, who remind her every day of the joy and humble fulfillment that these best friends can bring into our lives.
Jessica offers private consults and training sessions in the comfort of your home that are tailored to you and your dog's individual needs. She is dedicated to helping owners improve their relationship with their dogs and establish clear and effective communication that is founded on confidence, compassion and respect. Jessica has a vast amount of experience with manners training and behavioral modification. In addition, she holds a Diploma in Childcare and Education and has coached many young children on the concept of kindness and safe awareness toward animals.
In addition to her work in the private sector, Jessica is an experienced shelter professional. This includes having expertise in managing and training teams of staff and volunteers, creating socialization and enrichment programs, writing safety and handling protocols, public speaking and working with dogs with highly challenging behaviors. Jessica has provided guidance for many new pet parents on how to best create a smooth transition and happy ending for their new rescue, as well as having successfully modified the behavior of the seemingly 'unadoptable'.
